Ischemic heart disease

Ischemic heart disease (IHD) is a major health risk. In the Netherlands more than 100.000 people are admitted to hospital each year due to IHD, while approximately 15.000 people die as a result of IHD.

Within the IHD Pearl clinical data and biomaterial is being collected from patients with an acute heart infarct and from patients with chronic heart failure as a result of an old heart infarct. In this manner it is possible to study the course from the presentation of ischemia in the heart, the infarct, the decreased function of the heart to, in the end, (terminal) heart failure.

The knowledge obtained can lead to the development of improved treatment resulting in a qualitatively and quantitatively improved prognosis.
